Northern Skating Academy Policies and Procedures

Skate Canada Minimum Operating Standards 

Skate Canada Code of Ethics 

Membership
  1. Each skater must pay the Skate Canada Membership fee ONCE per season (September 1st-August 31st) regardless of the association at which it is processed. The Skate Canada fee is non-refundable by the skating school once processed.
  2. Programs must be paid in full prior to participation, unless a payment plan is discussed in writing. 
  3. Administration fees are collected on a per program basis each season. If two or more family members from the same household are registered in the same program and session, only one Administration fee need be paid per family. 
  4. All skaters who have not passed their Skate Canada CanSkate Stage 5 (or equivalent) must wear a CSA certified helmet in accordance with the Skate Canada Helmet Use Policy implemented on July 1, 2011. More information can be found at info.skatecanada.ca
  5. Skaters who require special consideration (i.e. people with physical, mental, or learning disabilities) can have a parent or worker present on the ice, provided that the worker or parent is registered with Skate Canada.
  6. All members are required to create an Uplifter member account on the Northern Skating Academy's website. All registrations, invoices, tickets, subscriptions, e-mails, and member details will be tracked via the Uplifter member account.

Online Privacy
  1. All information collected during online registration is forwarded to Skate Canada for membership registration. We do not trade, sell, or otherwise transfer your personal information to outside parties.
  2. The email address provided is used for registration processing and to send information/updates above the program registration, or other information of interest to our members.
  3. All written conversations recorded via email or other social media accounts (i.e. Facebook, Instagram) are subject to be used as official records of contact.
Safe Sport and Respect in Sport
  1. All members of the Skating School will adhere to all current Skate Canada Safe Sport Policies.
  2. There is Zero Tolerance for any harassment, bullying, and abuse by or towards members of the skating school.
  3. The skating school is anti-discrimination and welcomes and respects members of all ages, abilities, genders, ethnicities, sexualities, and any other defining factors.
  4. All measures of inclusion of all demographics are taken to ensure members are comfortable and included in all programs offered by the Skating School.
  5. All incidents involving injury (significant), harassment, bullying, or abuse will be recorded and reported to Skate Canada.
  6. All employees of legal age working with youth are required to complete the Skate Canada Respect in Sport Course Module as per their contracts.
  7. All skaters are required to adhere to the Skaters Code of Conduct (see below).
  8. All parents/ guardians of skaters are required to adhere to the Parents Code of Conduct (see below). 
  9. All skating aids must be approved by the skating school prior to use on session. 
Employee & Contractor Protocol
  1. All employees and contractors above the age of majority are subject to a Criminal Records check at any point in their hiring or employment process.
  2. All employees and contractors above the age of majority working with youth are required to provide proof of a Criminal Records check prior to working with the Skating School.
  3. All employees and contractors are required to provide proof of an updated Criminal Records check upon expiry.
  4. All employees and contractors must be registered with Skate Canada before taking part in Northern Skating Academy programming.
  5. All coaches must be "In Good Standing" with Skate Canada prior to delivering lessons to our skaters. 
  6. All contractors are required to agree upon and sign a contract with the Northern Skating Academy prior to engaging with work. Copies will be kept by the Northern Skating Academy for the subsequent three years after the contract expires.
  7. Contractor payment will be agreed upon and followed through on a contractual basis.
Refund Policy
           
1. All sales are final.
 
SKATER CODE OF ETHICS:
In addition to Skate Canada's Code of Ethics, all skaters of the Northern Skating Academy, or their guardians on their behalf, agree to:
 
1. Participate in all off and on ice activities whenever possible. 
 
2. Wear the appropriate attire to all sessions. 
a. Off Ice:
i. Running Shoes
ii. Breathable clothing (layers).
b. On Ice:
i. Warm clothing, layers where necessary. 
ii. No jeans. 
iii. No fuzzy mittens that stick to the surface of the ice. 
iv. CSA approved hockey helmets
v. Skates that fit and are tied properly. 
 
3. Behave in a respectable, professional manner. 
a. All participants must not disturb members of other associations or programs as to disrupt their on and off ice programs. 
b. All participants must speak respectfully and at an appropriate volume whenever conducting themselves as representatives of the Northern Skating Academy. 
i. No swearing or inappropriate language by or around minors, or at other people. 
ii. No yelling, screaming, or otherwise disruptive behaviour. 
iii. No interrupting instructors or program assistants when they are directing programs.
iv. If any questions should be asked, skaters will do so respectfully. 
c. Whenever possible, skaters should commit to being on time to scheduled off and on ice sessions. 
d. All participants of reasonable age and development are expected to take responsibility for themselves as an athlete by showing up to sessions prepared, focused, and ready to participate. 
 
PARENT/ GUARDIAN CODE OF ETHICS:
In addition to Skate Canada's Code of Ethics and Northern Skating Academy's Policies and Procedures, all representative parents and guardians of the Northern Skating Academy agree to:
 
1. Participate in their athlete's sport in a positive manner by:
        a. Speaking and behaving respectfully and professionally towards their athlete, instructors, and all members of the Northern Skating            Academy at their athlete's session, on the way to and from the sessions, and at club meetings.  
b. Engaging in their athlete's sport by remaining informed via email, social media, phone calls, or in person.
c. Attending any recommended parent information sessions whenever possible. 
d. Encouraging their athlete to abide by Skate Canada's Code of Ethics and the Northern Skating Academy Skater code of Conduct. 
e. Helping their athlete arrive to every scheduled session on time and prepared whenever possible
f. Arriving or arranging the pick up of their skater post-sessions in a timely manner. 
 
2. Notify the Northern Skating Academy's directors and coordinators when:
a. They or their skater will be late or absent at any scheduled session in a timely manner. 
b. Any instance of harassment, bullying, or any unacceptable or inappropriate behaviour conducted by or directed towards any Northern Skating Academy members. 
c. Any substantial injuries have been sustained by their athlete, either acute or chronic, at or because of one or multiple Northern Skating Academy sessions. 
d. Their athlete requires special considerations due to any mental, physical, emotional, learning, or other circumstances prior to beginning sessions with us, or after an event has occurred that may have changed the athlete's needs.
